"As a visitor to Perth who likes to see live theatre, this was a terrific show in a great venue. The versatility and impact of the acting and its closeness was most appreciated."
Zen's Red Mouth audience member, July 2007

"Loved the show, I always enjoy the performances at The Blue Room. Artsy atmosphere, but not pretentious, cutting edge performances. Never boring"

Gongi, Jean and Amelia Violet span three generations of women from the same familty. As Amelia Violet dances into womanhood she reflects upon the incredible stories of women in her past for guidance and inspiration.

With an intricate and evocative live soundscape, Lipstick and Hessian traces the symbols, secrets and inner strength of a feminine underworld throughout the last century via personal accounts of three hot-blooded Australian sheilas.

"...red for naked earth and dust and sunburn and blood.. and lipstick. Red for an Australian woman."

This work is a personal journey for writer/director Jo Morris, who bases Lipstick and Hessian on the incredible stories of her own grandmother and great grandmother.
